KOMPUTER JADUL -, After an eight-year absence, American technology company Motorola has finally set foot back in the Indonesian market by releasing their new smartphone, the Moto G45 5G, Tuesday (2/19). However, amidst the fierce competition and flood of Chinese cellphone brands, this step raises the question: is Motorola able to compete and is it really serious about developing this local market?

"Motorola is making a comeback to Indonesia with the spirit of local for local, so we produce everything locally, for the local community, and bring change to our local community. We will bring our first smartphone, namely the G series, the Moto G45", claimed Motorola Indonesia Country Head, Bagus Prasetyo, quoted from Antara, Tuesday (2/18).

Local Production Promise, Is It True?

With the slogan "local for local", Motorola claims that the Moto G45 5G production process—from assembly to packaging—is entirely carried out in Indonesia.

"Starting from the PCB, entering the box, to marketing, all are made in Indonesia and we partner with our very strategic partner PT Sat Nusapersada", said Bagus.

They also boasted that the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of this cellphone reportedly exceeds the minimum limit of 35 percent set by the Ministry of Industry. However, until now there have been no detailed figures, so there is still a little doubt in the market about how big the local components actually are.

Premium Design, But Special Enough?

The Moto G45 5G is said to carry a premium design thanks to the vegan leather coating which is claimed to give a luxurious impression, with a body thickness of 8 millimeters and a weight of 183 grams. This cellphone is also equipped with IP52 water resistance certification, which is considered the minimum standard for splash resistance. Although quite interesting, similar features are currently also offered by many competing brands at competitive prices.

In the engine sector, Motorola has embedded the Snapdragon 6s Gen3 chipset which is claimed to be "the fastest in its class", but the public may need to wait for a more in-depth review whether this claim is proven. This cellphone with a storage capacity of 256GB and 8GB RAM is also priced at IDR 2,599,000, a price range that is densely competitive with various other brands.

Claims of Advanced Features, but Is It Stunning Enough?

The Moto G45 5G has a 6.5-inch punch-hole display with thin bezels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The 50MP Quad Pixel main camera is said to be able to capture clear images in various lighting conditions. There is also a 16MP front camera and a 2MP macro lens. These features, although they sound complete, are no longer new in the industry.

The 5000mAh battery supports 20-watt fast charging with the included adapter. Meanwhile, the Moto Gestures feature is claimed to make it very easy for users to access the camera and turn on the flashlight. The Smart Connect feature is also predicted to make it easier to share content across devices, from laptops to TVs.

Motorola also promised an Android 15 operating system update for the Moto G45 5G "in the near future", although there is no certainty about the schedule.

Long Wait, High Expectations

Motorola's presence after an eight-year hiatus certainly raises expectations. However, a number of parties question, amidst the dominance of other brands that have mushroomed in the domestic cellphone market, is Motorola able to prove itself? The slogan "local for local" sounds ambitious, but without significant breakthroughs and further transparency regarding TKDN, it is possible that this revival step will end in an anticlimax.

Time will tell, whether the Moto G45 5G really satisfies the expectations of Indonesian consumers, or is just a comeback gimmick that quickly fades.
